After running the standard firmware for my new Linksys WRT320N router for a couple of days, some things started to act up. I was having problems with Skype quality, VPN connections that stopped working after a while and some other small things. Because my old trusty WRT54G had always been running DD-WRT on it without any problems, I was very glad to see that a couple of days ago the latest version of the custom firmware DD-WRT now has WRT320N support in it.

Here's how you set this up.

First off you will need some files.

- mini firmware

- Standard dd-wrt 320N firmware

Connect to the web interface of your standard WRT320N. First off, reset all settings of your device to factory-defaults to avoid complications with the new firmware. Then go to the Firmware section, and flash the mini firmware into the device.

When the device is done and has rebooted it will default to the 192.168.1.1 ipaddress, so make sure the computer you're doing this from is in the same range as your router. So 192.168.1.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 should work. If you're using DHCP from your router, just renew the DHCP lease and you should be good.

You should now see the new dd-wrt interface. Now it's time to flash the other firmware into the device. Go to 'Administration'. You will probably get a username/password box now. Type in the default : username: root password: admin

In the 'Administration' section, go to 'Firmware' and flash the other firmware file into the device. Note that I have linked to the 'standard' version of the dd-wrt firmware. They've made a couple of different version of this firmware. You can check them out here by typing in 'wrt320n' in the searchbox. The standard version is mostly okay for regular users.

After the device is done rebooting again, you can now connect to your fancy dd-wrt wrt320N router and configure it the way you want.

Remember to change the default password right away!
